Facilitating a Lifewriting Group is Easy
by Cathy Fulton

Memory Book Projects Being part of a lifewriting group that meets regularly will help you to continue writing your memoirs and provide inspiration for stories. Don't have a group that meets nearby? Form one of your own!

You don't have to be a writing "teacher" to facilitate this kind of writing group. This facilitator's guide will help you with:

  • Publicity (including sample press releases and posters).
  • Ideas for meeting formats that work for groups large or small.
  • Writing group guidelines.

To help you begin, detailed exercises are provided for your first six meetings. Those are followed by over 65 quick and easy lifewriting ideas—enough for more than a year's worth of meetings! Many of the writing ideas are accompanied by reproducible handouts. All 38 handouts are also included on a CD-ROM in word-processor format so you can customize them for your group.

The appendix includes a five-page annotated list of additional resources so you will never run out of writing ideas for your group.

The following sample pages are in PDF file format. The freely available Adobe Acrobat reader is required to view these files.
